The company that created Grand Theft Auto is in talks to buy Codemasters
Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games, 2K Games and Private Division, is in talks to buy British Codemasters, known for racing games in the DiRT, GRID and F1 series.
It is reported that Take-Two has made a preliminary offer to acquire the entire share capital of Codemasters. If the holding company decides to continue the offer after completing due diligence and meeting other conditions, Codemasters States that the company's Board of Directors intends to unanimously recommend that its shareholders accept the transaction.
In a comment for the VCG portal, a representative of Take-Two confirmed the information, saying that the acquisition of Codemasters will allow developers to work with better performance at the expense of the holding's resources. According to media reports, the deal could amount to 740 million pounds ($973 million) in cash and shares.
Codemasters recently bought the Slightly Mad Studios team and received the rights to release games under the FIA World Rally Championship license.
