Sales of Monster Hunter Rise for Switch exceeded 7 million copies
Sales of Monster Hunter Rise action role-playing game for Nintendo Switch have passed the 7,000,000 - copy mark, Capcom said.
This week, the project received a large-scale content update 3.0 with new monsters, quests and an ending, and in June, July and August, the developers plan to release updates 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3, respectively. They are aimed at long-term support for the hit.
With sales of 7 million copies, Monster Hunter Rise is already ranked as the 7th most successful release in Capcom's history on the market. In addition, the project set an absolute record for sales among the company's products presented on only one platform. The previous record holder for more than 20 years remained the original version of the fighting game Street Fighter II for Super Nintendo console.
Places from 1st to 6th are occupied by the multiplatform parts of Resident Evil, which debuted in the last two generations (Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 7, a remake of Resident Evil 2), and Monster Hunter World.
Based on the internal Capcom documentation that has been leaked, Monster Hunter Rise is selling much faster than expected. Initially, the publisher predicted sales of the Switch-exclusive at the level of 6.6 million copies for the first full year. The PC version is due out next spring.
If you believe the leaks, the release of Monster Hunter Rise G, an expanded version of the game for Switch, is being prepared for 2022, and for 2023 - a project codenamed Monster Hunter 6. Presumably, we are talking about Monster Hunter World 2 for new-generation consoles and PC.
