The premiere date of the film about the youth of Willy Wonka has been announced
Warner Bros. studio has picked a director and a premiere date for a movie called “Wonka,” which will focus on the main character in the fairy tale "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” Willy Wonka.
The Hollywod Reporter claims that “The Adventures of Paddington” creator Paul King has been appointed to direct, and the release is scheduled for March 17, 2023.
Note that this project first became known several years ago, when Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the work from the Roald Dahl Estate Foundation. Then it was argued that it will be a kind of prequel to the original work, but it will not be about becoming an eccentric owner of a confectionery, but about his early adventures. In the case of the success of the first project, Warner Bros. intended to continue this series. Whether other characters from the tale would appear in the film is not yet specified.

Recall that the story “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was first published in 1964. Two films were made based on it — in 1971 and in 2005. In the first, the role of Wonka was played by Gene Wilder, and in the second by Johnny Depp. The latter adaptation was successful at the box office, earning about $500 million.
